Discernment: Don’t Leave Home Without It! by
Angie Lewis I
believe the most often overlooked area for young single adults living on
their own is that of personal security. They just don’t take the added
precautions that a young person should when out on their own. The notion
that nothing bad will ever happen to them is false security. Discernment
dictates that we be careful of what we do, who we trust, and be aware of
our surroundings at all times. Wisdom
is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of him
who lacks judgment. (Proverbs 10:13 NIV) Lock
Doors At Night Many
young adults have this mistaken belief that bad things won’t happen to
them, but this attitude breeds carelessness. Statistically speaking the
most vulnerable person will be preyed upon first before those who take
the added precautions to watch their back. The fact of the matter is,
predators have been known to break into homes during the day while
people were home and rape and, or kill the occupants.
Why make it easy? Lock doors and windows! Don’t
Go Out Alone At Night The
chances of being raped or murdered are much, much greater when a woman
is alone. Women who go out in pairs are less vulnerable and less prone
to becoming a kidnap victim or worse.
Don’t
Trust People Until You Really Know Them How
will you know if you really know someone? The best way to know someone
is to find out who else knows them. And ask tons of questions. Where did
they come from? What school have they gone to? Where do their parents
live? Where do they work? Why are they now in your town? Be judicious
with new people you meet. Be
slow in choosing a friend, slower in changing. – From Poor Richards
Almanack Don’t
Rely On Cell Phone Your
cell phone will only alert emergency, and to the possible location to
where you are at; it will not save you from being robbed, raped, beaten,
or murdered. Lock
Car Doors Did
you hear about the woman who was filling out her checkbook in the
Wal-Mart parking lot, during the day, and a bad guy came out from
nowhere and tried to get into her car? She stayed safe because she was
wise – she had her car doors locked. Parking lots are a hot spot for
bad people to prey upon the hopeless, vulnerable and unwise. Keep
Car Properly Maintained Having
a car that is running sound may keep you from breaking down on some
lonely stretch of road. Don’t allow yourself to be driving around in a
beater, especially if alone. Take the needed precautions and keep your
vehicle tuned. He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of a fool suffers harm (Proverbs 13:20 NIV) Don't Wear Skimpy Clothing If your breasts, belly or behind is sticking out of your clothing, that means you are asking for trouble from many of the perverts on the street. Why reveal a a part of yourself that should be reserved for your husband? Respect yourself. Be smart by dressing smart. When you are married you can wear skimpy clothing for your husband in your own bedroom. |
