1. Marriage Belongs To God

Marriage was intended to be a sanctified union between a man and a woman and set apart from the world for God and his purpose.

“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate. (Matthew 19:4-6)

2. The First Marriage Was Between Adam and Eve

The Lord God said, “It is not good for a man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” (Genesis 2:18)

So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh she shall be called woman for she was taken out of man.” Genesis 2:21-23)

God gave marriage as a gift to Adam and Eve. The two become one flesh in the intimacy and commitment of sexual union that is designed specifically for marriage. The sexual union consummated the marriage.

3. The Marriage Contract Cannot Be Broken

Permanency of marriage was God’s intention. Jesus says in no uncertain terms that marriage is a lifetime commitment. To leave your spouse and marry another may be legal but it is adultery in God’s eyes. God designed marriage to be indissoluble.

Jesus said, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery. (Luke 16:18)

4. Marriage Can Be Recorded In Family Bible

The definition of a "license" demands that we not obtain one to marry. Black's Law Dictionary defines "license" as, "The permission by competent authority to do an act which without such permission, would be illegal." We need to ask ourselves, why should it be illegal to marry without the State's permission? More importantly, why should we need the State's permission to participate in something that God instituted?
(Gen. 2:18-24)

Buy a Family Bible, which contains birth and death records, and a marriage certificate and record your marriage in the Family Bible. What's recorded in a Family Bible will stand up as legal evidence in any court of law in America.

5. Marriage Is A Living Symbol of Jesus Christ and the Church

…For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the Church submits to Christ, so also wives’ should submit to their husbands in everything. (Ephesians 5:23-24)

This is a profound mystery-but I am talking about Christ and the Church. (Ephesians 5:32)

In Jesus’ day, women, children, and slaves were to submit to the head of the family. Slaves submitted until they were freed, male children until they grew up, and girls and women their whole life. The bible tells believers to submit to one another out of respect because it preserves order and harmony. According to the Bible, the man is the spiritual head of the family, and the wife should honor her husband by submitting.
